Laughing Medusas

When I write, it's everything that we don't know we can be that is written out of me, without exclusions, without stipulation, and everything we will be calls us to the unflagging, intoxicating, unappeasable search for love. In one another we will never be lacking. ~Helene Cixous "The Laugh of the Medusa"

Poetic Justice

(A Revision of "Never Trusted Poets")

I’ve never trusted poets

Their words
Always too intense
Too melodramatic
To be true

Poets cannot separate
What they write from
Who they are

They are zealots
Writing
What they cannot endure
Yet claim to know

But no one can feel
That strong
All the time
I just don’t buy it

So I’ve never trusted poets

But I trust you
Either you are not a poet
Or I am caught
Trusting a poet

(And there’s no denying
That you are a poet
It was tattooed upon your soul
Long before you had it inked upon your body)

So that leaves me here
Vulnerable and yet
Unafraid

Trusting you
